About the Course

Ancient Hebrew is one of the world’s first recorded languages. You may wonder about the value of learning Ancient Hebrew. The rewards are worth the effort. Ancient Hebrew provides deep insight into the thinking of the Hebrews and the meanings of words in the bible. For example, the letter A ‘Aleph’ represents an ox, a servant, a leader, or God himself. With this knowledge, we can examine words where this letter occurs and obtain a much fuller understanding of their meanings.

Ancient Hebrew uses symbols to construct words in a similar manner to how chemical formulae are constructed. In other words, two symbols juxtaposed together form a word that incorporates both ideas but also creates a new idea.  The word for ‘father’ consists of two symbols, Aleph (servant, leader,) and ‘Beyt’ (House). The whole being greater than the sum of the parts.
