Targumic Aramaic

Targumic Aramaic is the Aramaic of the Targums Onkelos, Jonathan, etc. The value of Targumic Aramaic is the wealth of cultural and historical information that can be gleaned from the Targums. Many Jews had lost the natural ability to communicate effectively in Hebrew and needed translation into Aramaic.

This Aramaic is also useful for understanding the inter-testamental literature. The Maccabean period is one of the most exciting phases in Jewish history. Some of the literature that emerges from the intertestamental period reveals the agony, the Apocalypticism, and hopes that accompanied Israel
